United Parcels Service (UPS), the world’s largest package delivery company and global leader in supply-chain service, only had one criterion for the “Out-of-the-Box” Small Business Contest for its centennial celebration: “demonstrated commitment to & delivery of customer that best exemplifies end-to-end service.”
Binalot Fiesta Foods, Inc., emerged as the first Asia Pacific winner of the prestigious award for its DAHON (Dangal at Hanapbuhay para sa Nayon) Program, wherein Binalot buys banana leaves directly from farmers in a community in Nagcarlan, Laguna, giving these farmers and their family members a source of livelihood. This came with a $ 10,000 reward.
The ceremonial awarding of the prize to BFFI president, Rommel T. Juan, took place during the First Annual Binalot Franchisees Convention last January 24, 2008, at Handle Bar, # 31 Polaris St., Bgy. Bel-Air, Makati City. UPS Director of Finance, Ms. Dina Corvera, presented the cheque in the presence of the franchisees and the DAHON community members.
